Blue Giant live at CD WORLD 7/17 at 3pm

Blue Giant, named after the brightest star in the galaxy, is the creation of Kevin and Anita Robinson, better known as Portland, Ore. indie-pop darlings Viva Voce. The Robinson’s new band features Chris Funk (The Decemberists), Evan Railton (Swords) and Seth Lorinczi (The Golden Bears). Produced by Kevin Robinson, Blue Giant will be released on July 13th.

On their self-titled debut, Blue Giant combines the traditional sounds of American music – country, bluegrass, and folk with driving, straight-ahead rock. The twelve tracks on the album, written by Kevin and Anita, showcase that versatility from the classic country feel of “Lonely Girl,” to the melodic guitars in “Clean The Clock,” to the mellow, deceptively simple “Gone For Good” which features Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker.

Blue Giant will be playing live at CD WORLD on their tour of Northwest indie record stores on Saturday July 17th at 3pm and it's FREE!!!

DJ Kicks on sale at CD WORLD!

DJ-Kicks started out in 1995 as a compilation of electronic DJ club-style mixes in the techno or house genres, with the then-novel twist of being targeted to a home listening audience. Soon afterwards, both the choice of compilers and the genres included were expanded: In addition to DJs, more and more producers (like Terranova), remixers (like Kruder & Dorfmeister), bands (like the Stereo MCs) and musicians (like Nicolette) compiled DJ-Kicks albums. The actual music began to vary wildly as well, ranging from Trüby Trio's downbeat jazz sound to Kemistry & Storm's aggressive drum and bass. Still, all contributions remain broadly within the electronic music genre.

At CD WORLD you'll find our entire selection of DJ Kicks comps on sale now in our techno section!

Bearcub live at CD WORLD June 20th at 4pm

Bearcub, better known as Kellen Holte, is most recognized as a prolific rock drummer, touring NW clubs with Facing Extinction, Of Mountains and Dead Fucking Serious, to name a few. His new approach is rooted in folk music that ranges from light as Kimya Dawson to heavy as Johnny Cash. Bearcub represents both ends of the spectrum with disarming candor on his solo debut. The song 'In Vain' reveals an introspective side which is explored further on the EP. Catch Bearcub live at CD WORLD on Sunday June 20th at 4pm FREE!

Sick Puppies live at CD WORLD June 5th at 2pm FREE!

Sick Puppies don't do things halfway, not when they're playing live in front of their rabid fans, nor when they tackled Tri-Polar, their second major label album for RMR/ Virgin/EMI and follow-up to Dressed Up As Life. When the Australian band decided to break through in the U.S., founding members, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Shimon Moore and his high school classmate, bassist Emma Anzai, simply picked up and moved lock, stock and guitar amps to L.A., advertised for a drummer on Craig's List, and were soon joined by Orange County native Mark Goodwin. Catch Sick Puppies live at CD WORLD June 5th at 2pm FREE! We also have tickets for sale to their show later that night at the WOW Hall in Eugene!

Kaki King live in-store performance May 16th

Kaki King's childhood passions were the drums and Brit-pop, and she figured if she ever made it big it would be because of her skills behind the kit. However, her musical talents didn't stop there: she also played the guitar, and though she learned Beatles and Fleetwood Mac songbooks, she found herself drawn to the styles of Preston Reed and Michael Hedges. Catch Kaki King live at CD WORLD for free on Sunday May 16th at 2pm and pick up a copy of her latest release 'Junior' on sale! CD WORLD also has tickets for sale to her show later that night at the WOW Hall in Eugene!

Local Eugene favorite Halie Loren releases live CD nationwide

The first thing you notice is that voice: deep and rich and warm, gorgeous, graceful, and somehow earthy and ethereal at once. Think Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday and Joni Mitchell, or, more recently, Diana Krall or Norah Jones. For over 10 years, Eugene native Halie Loren has developed a style in singing and songwriting that is familiar yet totally her own. Her new album shows Halie at her best, in front of a live audience. From great originals (Free to be Loved, They Oughta Write a Song) to interpretations of rock classics, (Sunny Afternoon, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For), Halie Loren proves that her voice is certainly a must hear voice of the new decade.

Halie Loren's national debut "Stages" is on sale now at CD WORLD for only 9.99!

Crazy Awesome New Releases Out Today!

We've got three of the most anticipated releases of the year (perhaps decade?) waiting for you!

1. GORILLAZ--Plastic Beach SALE PRICED $10.99 (DELUXE VERSION ONLY $19.99)

Plastic Beach unites a huge list of guests, creating yet another well-crafted and dance-friendly set of songs. The songs demonstrate a genre-bending collection of glitchy club beats and hip-hop grooves, augmented by brass, glitzy synthesizers and Asian- and Arabic-tinged orchestral harmonies. -NPR

2. BROKEN BELLS--Broken Bells SALE PRICED $11.99 (DELUXE VERSION ONLY $43.99)

Brian Burton, a.k.a. Danger Mouse, always seems to be working on something, but this feels different. Burton has teamed up with James Mercer, who's spent more than a decade leading his band The Shins, to form Broken Bells. This is a smart pop record full of melody and invention. It's pretty and at times unorthodox, and it finds both Burton and Mercer drawing on each other's talents to make a record unique to each of them.

3. JIMI HENDRIX--Valleys Of Neptune SALE PRICED $11.99

Also available today: Deluxe reissues of classic Jimi albums!

The arrival of a new Jimi Hendrix album is an extraordinary occasion. Most of these 12 songs were recorded in 1969 in London and New York after the Jimi Hendrix Experience's third and final studio album, "Electric Ladyland." In the 18 months leading up to his death in September 1970, Hendrix was in the midst of transition borne of confidence and success. These sessions were his last with the Experience's Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell and first with Billy Cox, Hendrix's old army buddy who'd take up bass duties in Band of Gypsys later in the year. The heart of the album (if a posthumous collection can truly be considered such) is the title track, a fully finished and commercially unreleased song. It's brief, beautiful and haunting: Hendrix longing for a sort of cosmic release from earthly constraints, cooing, maybe to himself, "rise on, baby, rise on."

Also available today are new releases by: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Ben Harper, The Chieftans/Ry Cooder, Pavement, Liars, The Knife, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Ludacris, and SO MUCH MORE!
